Best Tacos in the East Valley

Since everyone has different tastes, we’ve asked a few East Valley residents where they go to satisfy their taco cravings. Here are a few favorites.

Gilbert

Backyard Taco

One visit to Backyard Taco on Higley in Gilbert and your relationship will soar to a new level of yum! Bring a friend or two and enjoy! Once you explore the special seasonings, marinades and textures, you’ll know why everyone can’t get enough of this good stuff.

Joyride Taco

Try Taco Tuesdays to enjoy $2 tacos and $5 margaritas from 2 p.m. to close! So many tacos to choose from, including Pork Adobado, Baja Fish, Crispy Fish, Carne Asada and Chipotle Shrimp Taco. Fun Downtown Gilbert atmosphere or pickup available.

Barrio Queen

Also in Downtown Gilbert and other locations in the Valley, Barrio Queen’s iconic family recipes offer diners a fantastic selection of tacos, including five premium tacos packed with delicious combinations of ingredients. Try the Alambre Beef or Tacos De Tinga tacos. They have healthier options available as well. You won’t forget this unique and colorful place.

Mesa

Macayo’s

A longtime regional chain that’s been enjoyed by locals since 1946, there are two Mesa locations and another coming soon to the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport area. Features family recipes by founders Woody and Victoria Johnson with terrific salsa and Baja sauce. Try the mini chimichangas as well as the tacos! Many families and offices order catering for big occasions.

Tia Rosa’s

Another longtime local favorite, this restaurant has been voted for Best Tacos many times over. There’s also the signature Flying Saucer, a crisp tortilla stacked with beef, pork or chicken, plus yummy toppings. Extensive dine-in or take-out menu.

Rosita’s

A local favorite with the best tacos around and a to-go Taco Box that feeds up to four people. Rosita’s is named for Mama Rosa, who shared her old family recipes from Sonora, Mexico.

Garcia’s

Delicious, authentic recipes you can’t get enough of. Large selection of dishes with four basic taco options, Grilled Fish, Shrimp, Carnitas or Street Tacos. Dine-in or take-out.

Mangos, Downtown Mesa

A small eatery favored by locals in Downtown Mesa. Outside tables available along Main Street. Yummy flash-fried fish taco with orange avocado salsa is a good choice.

Talo’s

Authentic Mexican tacos and plates that are definitely worth a try, with the hottest red sauce around.

Rudy’s Mexican Grill

You’ll find amazing tacos at this little neighborhood grill. Try a Carne Asada Street Taco or shrimp or fish taco. Rudy’s Bowl full of meat, beans and toppings is also delicious.

Burrito Shack

A cool little local place with fantastic reviews. Established over 15 years ago, Ed and Judy Nasserbegan providing this sparsely populated stretch of Power Road with delicious food and great service.

An Arizona chain that is REALLY good for a quick lunch. Authentic Mexican food with fresh ingredients and a friendly atmosphere. Try a combination plate and a tropical Horchata and Jamaica drink.

Many diners we asked admitted to Taco Bell hankerings! The cheesy gordita crunch from Taco Bell was selected by several people.
