Snow Globes in a Jar

These adorable little Snow Globes are easy and each is unique!

What you will need:

  • Clean Jar with lid
  • Primer to paint the lid
  • Latex or Enamel Paint of your choice for the lid
  • Scrap of Leather
  • Plastic, glass or ceramic pieces to go inside the globe. (Metal, pinecones, fabric etc. will not work as these are the pieces that will sit inside the globe, in water.)
  • Distilled Water
  • Glycerin (Walgreens carries it)
  • Glitter (we used the type with “larger” hex shapes, about 1/16 inch in size)
  • E6000 Glue
  • Ribbon

  1. Clean and dry your jars well.
  2. Primer the lid and let dry.
  3. Paint the lid the color of your choice.
  4. We glued (E6000) a scrap of white leather to the inside of the lid to serve as the base — it sorta resembled snow. If you do this step, let glue dry as much as 24 hours.
  5. Glue your plastic, glass or ceramic pieces inside of the lid. Let dry 24 hours.
  6. Fill the glass jar with about 1 teaspoon of glitter and 1 teaspoon glycerin.
  7. Fill with distilled water, knowing that there will be displacement when you add the lid with the pieces glued.
  8. Wipe the lid and jar rim dry of any water. Make a complete rim of glue around the jar lid or rim, using E6000. Make sure there is glue around the entire lid or rim so water is sealed in once you attach.
  9. Screw lid onto jar, attaching so no water can escape. Keep upright and let the glue harden for 24 hours.
  10. Tie on ribbon and any other ornamentation to the outside (such as a name tag) and you are done!
